Disney’s The Little Mermaid Makes a Splash at the Redlands Bowl in 2020
Redlands, CA- Redlands Bowl Performing Arts (RBPA) is pleased to announce that Disney’s The Little Mermaid has been selected as the musical for the 97th Season of the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival. The show will be directed by Wayne Scott, who recently directed and produced Beauty and the Beast at the Redlands Bowl in 2018. Performances will run Thursday, July 23 – Sunday, July 26, 2020 with a public dress rehearsal on Tuesday, July 21, 2020.
“We are delighted to be presenting Disney’s The Little Mermaid for the first time on the Bowl stage. The unforgettable soundtrack and colorful production will be absolutely magical against the backdrop of our beautiful Bowl under Wayne Scott’s creative direction. We can’t wait!” says Beverly Noerr, RBPA Executive Director.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”
“We are thrilled to bring the Redlands Bowl debut of The Little Mermaid to Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival audiences in 2020. With its unforgettable music and an awesome cast of undersea characters, it promises to be a fun-filled Broadway experience for the over 30,000 people of all ages we expect to attend. We are so honored to once again be working with producer and director Wayne Scott and know he’ll do a phenomenal job in bringing this Disney classic to life on the Redlands Bowl stage.” says Valerie Peister, RBPA Program Director.
Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
“It is always an honor and a career highlight to be associated with Redlands Bowl Performing Arts,” commented director Wayne Scott. “The summer musical at the Bowl is an opportunity to serve the community and present a dazzling gift to the Inland Empire. I look forward to a sensational season under the sea as we combine memorable music, snappy comedy, fun costuming, and colorful choreography for a dazzling edition of The Little Mermaid.”
“I anticipate that auditions for this Broadway musical will be held during the first two weeks of April 2020,” Scott added. “More details will be announced in the near future.”
